AΛЄΞANΔPYΠOΛIC AΔPIANωN / AIΓAIWN / ZOC Severus Alexander on horseback to right, raising his right hand in salute. Haymann 173.1 = SNG Levante 1772 (same dies). Very rare and of great interest. The obverse of this interesting issue calls Severus Alexander the 'greatest high priest of the known world and of Asklepios', and it shows the emperor holding the serpent-entwined staff of the god of medicine. The issue was struck in 230/1 to commemorate the adventus of Severus Alexander in the city, where he accepted the office of high priest of Asklepios - a great honor to the polis, which it proudly boasted on its coins
